Clackamas dentist  Dr. Jeremy Suess and his compassionate and friendly staff receive a lot of great questions from patients. Here are the answers to the most common questions:

Q: Is it really that important to brush my teeth twice a day?

A: Thorough Oral Hygiene such as brushing twice and day and flossing, reduces the amount of bacteria in your mouth, which helps prevent dental disease such as cavities and gum disease.

Q: What causes cavities?

Cavities, or caries, are caused by bacteria.  Sugar is food for the cavity causing bacteria, so the more sugar you eat, the more cavities you are likely to have.

Q: What is the benefit of a fluoride treatment?

Dr. Suess may decide that fluoride should be part of your overall treatment. Fluoride treatments re-mineralize teeth, slow developing cavities and make your teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque, bacteria, and sugars in the mouth.

Q: Can you really avoid tooth decay?

Tooth decay is a destructive process that if not treated will end with bone and tooth loss. A sticky substance known as plaque contains bacteria and it is always forming on your teeth and gums.  It is important to treat tooth decay before it causes pain, infection, and tooth loss.

Q: What are Dental Veneers?

If you have teeth that are uneven, chipped or stained, veneers can help. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are generally used to improve the overall look of your teeth. Ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable, incredibly strong and durable and highly resistant to stains from substances like coffee, tea, or tobacco.
